 Friday night started as the Loft where I caught up with Andy and Matty before heading off to Georgie's supposedly surprise birthday party.
Finally, we started off at a place other than Icon for our Friday drinks. The new location was The Loft (still owned by the same mob). Andy, Ben and Allison were all there in addition to Matty, Simon, David, Zach, Jon and Maxine. I also ran into Phil, who I had met at the MBA orientation just the previous night. He is a mate of Simon's. Small World!!
We had our two free drinks and then Matty and I moved on to some Absinthe. The way they gave it was unique. A shot of Absinthe was poured into a wine glass with the round part of the glass balanced on top of a normal spirits glass. The absinthe was lit on fire with the help of sugar and the wine glass rolled on top of the other glass. Then the absinthe is poured into the other glass and the wine glass put upside down on the counter. After blowing out the fire and shooting the absinthe, you have to take a straw, put it between your fingers and cover the wine glass with your palm and suck all the fumes out using the straw. Those fumes go straight to your head, plus the fumes also burn your palms. They wouldn't give us any more absinthe either saying that they are not allowed to serve more than one per customer per night.
After the drinks, next stop was Georgie's surprise party. I had to reach her place by 8ish as she was supposed to arrive at 8:30. However, I left The Loft at 8 and by the time I got near her place, it was already 8:20ish. I was given strict instructions that if I was late, I should hang back till 9. So I ended up at the Elsternwick Hotel for a few more drinks and some pool. I finally reached her place at 9 and found out it wasn't much of a surprise anyway. She had found out about the party a week earlier when some idiot called her place to confirm details.
The party itself was pretty good... well, atleast the little bit that I remember was good. That absinthe was finally getting to me and I don't know how I managed to have reasonable conversations with anyone. I met Georgie's dad and found out he is the owner of Propaganda, 231 Bridge Rd and they specialize in weird t-shirts and that he'll give me a good discount if I ever came by.... I'll have to check it out sometime and see if there is anything worth getting from there.
I have absolutely no idea what time I left the party or how I got home, other than waking up at 3 PM and going... oh shit.. I've got a party starting in 4 hours and I've organised absolutely nothing for it.
