Show ReviewsI got word of a new improvised show in Fitzroy through Mosh and they were celebrating their first anniversary today. The spiel I got was:
The Cut & Paste gang are turning one this Thursday and we wanna have one hell of a show and party. Once again, Melbourne's freshest Impro crew will take you on mystical journeys into the unknown, without a script, without a map and handing the wheel over to the audience for one hell of a ride!

From the spiel, I didn't know what to expect. I was hoping for a Impro Crew style of show and not a Bingo Board of Doom style of show. Thankfully, my hopes were realised. The show format is similar to the "Impro Crew " and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?". The performers were Danny Alder, Vanessa Bennett, Wayne Dixon, Geraldine Hickey, Gillian Lever, Simon Scott and Adam Vincent. Adam was also at the Impro Sundae we went to previously. Also, Simon looked a lot like the guy who performed in Gilgamesh.

The venue was the Glitch Bar on St George's Road. The bar is a nice and cosy place that has a bar in the front with space for about 15 people, a nice plush carpeted lounge area inside for another 15. There was a small cinema at the back where the performance took place. Overall, the place is very cosy and I reckon a nice place to have a small party where you can take over the joint and have a few drinks while watching a DVD or two.

Now onto some of the formats that were used (if I can remember them). The first one was "do ran, ran, do ran, ran". I've seen this previously on "Whose Line Is It Anyway". Basically, we gave a bunch of names to the performers and they had to make up a lines that rhymed with those names.

This was followed by the questions game where they were given a scenario and had to talk in questions.

The final game was one person was led out of the room and all the other performers were assigned characters, diseases or famous people. Then the person who was out had to guess who the others were. This is again based on a game from Drew Carey's TV show.

A similar game scenario that was used earlier was the Geraldine was a teenager coming home late and her parents were staying up to interogate her. We decided that she had been in an octopus' garden with William Wallace and got home in a prison laundry trolley. Geraldine had to guess those three items based on clues given by the parents. Priyanka loved that game, especially Geraldine's acting.

There were many more games and each one required some sort of suggestion from the audience. I'd recommend that you go see this yourself. For $5 for a 2 hour show, this is more value than some of the movies that are coming out.

Finally, there was a cake that was supposed to be available after the show, but since we left almost immediately after, we missed out. The reason we left was that the front bar was very smoky and I didn't like that. I can't wait till the no smoking laws come into effect.
