Home Theatre PCWhat I was expecting to be the hardest part of the whole installation process, turned out to be the easiest. Installing and setting up MythTV.

Home Theatre PCThe most important part of an HTPC is the TV Tuner Card. I did my research beforehand and had chosen the Dvico Fusion HDTV Dual Digital 4 as the card I wanted. It had two tuner cards, both running off PCI and Linux support was available through patches done by a person up in Brisbane. Even with all the research, there is always a risk that something does not work, so this step was going to be very important in determining whether a Linux based HTPC is going to work or not.

Home Theatre PCIt is important for me to get the Wireless card working and it will allow me to move the case out of sight next to the TV. With ssh already installed, I will then be able to continue my installation from my laptop and Priyanka will not get annoyed with me having computer parts and cables all over the place.

Home Theatre PCThe next thing on the list is to install an operating system. My first preference is to use MythTV, which requires a Linux based OS. After reading through a lot of the possible distributions, I decided to try Mythbuntu, which is based on Ubuntu. I have heard a lot of good things about Ubuntu and saw the video of it vs Vista on YouTube, so though this would be a good opportunity to try it out,

Home Theatre PCI have been thinking about building a HTPC for a while now (over a year). However, the past year has been very busy and I never got the time. A few months ago, I was working in Canberra and my client there told me about his HTPC, which again awakened my desire to build my own. I spec'ed out a system and finally, today, I went out and bought all the pieces. Read on for a description of the specs and why I chose that component.

After Dark ShenaningansRichard and I were in Orlando to attend a conference and had planned to catch up with Mandeep, who met in Boston last month. He lives in Orlando, but works in Syracruse, so he flies up on Monday morning and returns on Thursday/Friday. I had arrived in Orlando last night and Richard had just arrived, but since Mandeep flies out tomorrow morning, tonight was the only time to meet.
